Round porcelain box painted with iron red, gold and gilt enamels, with, lotus panels above the foot, dense geometric pattern, a key-pattern surrounding the top of the cover representing an occidental watch dial-plate. /
Unglazed foot and glazed base bearing an iron red four characters mark: “officially made by the imperial kilns “
Similar watch dials can be found on snuff bottles, inspired by European style watch goussers;
These watches were introduced in the imperial court by The Jesuite and were highly appreciated by Kangxi Emperor himself.
This imperial taste encouraged the Chinese craftmans to produce porcelains, enamels and snuff bottles with this pattern.
